If you've been thinking about repainting your home and wondering what it'll run you, here's a straight answer from a contractor who's been working in the Quad Cities since 2017.
Interior Painting
For interior work, most Quad Cities homeowners pay between $1.00 and $1.75 per square foot of wall area — labor only. That means a 1,500 sq ft home typically runs $1,500 to $2,500 depending on the number of rooms, ceiling height, and how much prep the walls need.
Trim adds to that cost. Standard painted trim runs around $2 per linear foot. If you've got wood trim that needs sanding, priming, and painting, expect closer to $4 per linear foot. Prep work — cleaning, patching holes, scraping problem areas — adds $50 to $100 per wall depending on the condition.
Exterior Painting
Exterior jobs run a bit higher because of the added complexity — ladder work, masking windows and doors, dealing with different siding types and weathered surfaces. For vinyl or fiber cement siding, plan on $1.50 per square foot of siding area. Wood siding is closer to $1.75 per square foot.
A typical ranch-style home in Davenport with vinyl siding comes out to $2,000 to $2,500 in labor. Two-story homes add roughly 20% due to the extra setup and safety requirements.
What's Not Included
Most painting contractors in the Quad Cities — including us — price labor separately from materials. Paint, primer, caulk, and supplies are either billed at cost or purchased by the homeowner. When you get a quote, make sure you know whether materials are included.
Getting an Accurate Quote
